Homemade Valentine’s Day Gifts are the Perfect Way to Say I Love You

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

Using crafts, scissors and glue,

I’ll show how much I love you

Valentine’s Day is a special day to show those in your life how much they mean to you, whether that’s a significant other, family member, friend, teacher or anyone else. Picking out the right gift can be difficult, but making something homemade is always meaningful. So let’s pick up our scissors and put on our creative caps, here are some Valentine’s Day projects to try. Be sure to share photos of your projects with us on Facebook and Instagram using #HEARTSnHEATERS to enter for a chance to win either our Red or White Fireplace Heaters.

Pocket full of Love: For those who like to cuddle and want to try a simple sewing project, try making your own throw pillow with a pocket. You’ll need:

  • Two pieces of fabric (same size but not necessarily the same color or design)
  • Another piece of fabric to use for the heart pocket
  • Thread that matches or goes with your pillow design
  • Pillow stuffing

*note: use durable and easy to clean fabric for the pillow

Steps For Your Pillow

Sew your heart pocket onto one of the pieces of fabric, this will be the front of your pillow. Be sure to leave the top unstitched from the fabric so it functions as a pocket.

Stitch the front and back pieces of your pillow together, leave 4 inches open on one side.

Put the stuffing into the pillow through the hole you’ve left open.

Stitch up the hole.

Cuddle!

*Fun Note: instead of a heart, cute out a sun or present to use for another event or holiday.

Coaster Craft: This is a great gift for mom or dad from the kids and they work for any occasion! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Coasters or cork board (try looking at a craft store first)
  • Stencils, stamps or whatever you’d like to use to decorate
  • Paint
  • Brushes
  • Newspaper to cover your workspace

*Fun Note: if you buy cork board instead of coasters you can cut out any shape, heart, star or square, to make your coasters

Steps for your Coasters

Protect your work surface by laying down newspaper.

Decide on a design for your coasters (cut out coaster shapes if you have cork board).

Ideas: Spelling out “Love” using the coasters, different color hearts, if youre cutting out the coaster then make a giant heart and break that up so the coasters form a giant heart when put together

Get decorating! Use the paint and stencils to create thoughtful and unique coasters for your loved ones morning coffee or afternoon cup of cocoa.

Allow to completely dry before use.

Homemade and Delicious

Some of the best gifts to give are experience gifts. Valentine’s Day is Sunday this year so why not surprise them with homemade pancakes and breakfast in bed! This is a family recipe from Brady on Crane’s Marketing team.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder

Recipe yields about 15 pancakes, we usually make them about the size of a tea cup saucer.

*Remembering Note: 3 wet ingredients, 3 dry

*Creative Note: Add chocolate chips, blueberries, walnuts, coconut, pecans, banana or anything else to make these pancakes perfect for your loved ones. My dad also used to make the pancakes in fun shapes for my brother, sister and I when we were little. Try a heart or making their initials!
